Voici le cas d’un alerteur qui appartient au Système Scientifique et qui le dénonce de l’intérieur. Halton Arp est diplômé de Harvard (1949), puis Caltech (1953). C’est un ancien assistant de Edwin Hubble. Il a travaillé comme astronome aux Monts Wilson et Palomar pendant 29 ans avant de rejoindre l’Institut d’Astrophysique Max Planck à Munich. Ses observations des galaxies et quasars sont célèbres. Il est l’auteur d’un Atlas de Galaxies Singulières (1963), de " Quasars, Redshifts and Controversies " (1987). Il fut président de la Société Astronomique du Pacifique entre 1980 et 1983…

Mais ses observations furent consudéres comme " trop dérangeantes " pour le modèle standard, et on lui coupa aux US tout crédit, et moyens d’observation … Un bel exemple de fourvoiement de la Science Américaine, qui s’était déjà illustrée lors de l’exil de Bohm, le pourfendeur de l’orthodoxie copenhaguienne, réfuteur du faux théorème de Von Neuman qui osait prétendre démontrer la complétude de la théorie Quantique… Bien sûr, Einstein, De Broglie, et compagnie, n’y avait vu que du feu … En France le dogmatisme est encore pire : le (faux) théorème de Von Neuman a été ressorti par une nuée de plonks (nom donné aux normaliens, suite à une dispute sur le Web), avec battage publicitaire d’Alain Aspect… Une mystification, à l’opposé de la saine vulgarisation… Un retour en arrière de 60 ans, basé sur la ridicule dispute entre Einstein-le-copieur et Bohr-le-grugeur, où le premier s’accrochait à la ridicule barrière c, et l’autre à sa non moins ridicule " complétude "… On ne sait qui est le plus à plaindre : ces pauvres types ou ceux qui ont gobé ces âneries… au moins, aux US, un ancien acteur comme Ronald Reagan a eu l’intelligence de baser sa campagne sur le rejet du darwinisme ! Succès assuré car théorie éminemment débile… et en plus réfutée par 250000 chaînons manquants…

Voici donc ce qu’écrit Halton Arp dans la préface de son récent livre " Seeing Red " : je cite en anglais pour pas déformer, car c’est une déclaration historique :

" I believe the observational evidence has become overwhelming, and the Big Bang has in reality been toppled. There is now a need to communicate the news observations, the connections between objets and the new insights into the workings of the universe-all the primary obligations of academic science, which has generally tried to suppress or ignore such dissident information. The present book is sure to outrage many academic scientists. Many of my professional friends will be greatly pained.Why then do I write it ? First, everyone has to tell the truth as they see it, especially about important things The fact that the majority of professional are intolerant of even opinions which are discordant makes change a necessity. Those friends of mine who also struggle to get the mainstream of astronomy back on track mostly feel that presenting evidence and championing new theories is sufficient to cause change, anf that it is improper to criticize an entreprise to which they belong and value highly. I disagree, in that I think if we do not understand why science is failing to self-correct, it will not be possible to fix it.

This, then is the crisis for the reasonable members of the profession. With so many alternative, contradictory theories, many of them fitting the evidence very badly, abandonnig the accepted theory is a frigntening step into chas. At this point, I believe we must look for salvation from the non-specialists, amateurs and interdisciplinary thinkers-those who form judgments on the general thrust of the evidence, those who are skeptical about any explanation, particularly official ones, and above all are tolerant of other people’s theories.

The only hope I see is for the more ethical professionals and the more attentive, open-minded non professionals to combine their efforts to form a more democratic science with better judgment, and slowly transform the subject into an enlighened, more useful activity of society. This is the deeper reason I wrote this book and, although it will cause disytress, I believe a painfully honest debate is the only exercise capable of galvanizing meaningful change"
